Meet the team: Sophie Gerber

Sophie’s responsibilities in her role…

In her role, Sophie oversees the management and operations of TRAction. Her responsibilities span across regulatory, operational and business functions, from answering regulatory questions and supporting the team with complex client queries, to assisting across marketing, finance and administration.

What are the most enjoyable aspects of Sophie’s role?

For Sophie, one of the most rewarding parts of her role is seeing ideas grow into something tangible. “It’s a great feeling to see an idea through from inception to implementation,” she says.

She reflects on TRAction’s beginnings, sharing that she and Quinn started the company from an idea and an agreement at a TWG café in Bangkok in early 2015. “It has certainly evolved a lot further than I ever thought it would,” she adds.

If given the opportunity to go anywhere in the world, Sophie would…

I’d still love to experience one of the world’s exotic train journeys,” Sophie says.

While the Trans-Siberian Railway feels out of reach for now, Sophie notes that there are plenty of other compelling trips she’d love to experience by train. She explains, “maybe a short one for now, given that my job makes it hard to be out of touch for more than 24 hours.”

Over Christmas, she travelled on the GoldenPass Line in Switzerland from Montreux to Interlaken, which she describes as a fantastic experience.

Sophie is also an active reader, including some travel writing. She recently enjoyed The Old Patagonian Express by Paul Theroux, as well as Around the World in 80 Trains by Monisha Rajesh. While she admits that travelling the world entirely by train may be taking “work remotely” a little too far, both journeys hold appeal.

Fun facts about Rama and her hobbies

Outside of work, Sophie enjoys travelling with friends. In the past year, she visited Paris and Switzerland, two places she loves, and also attended a music festival in Queensland called Gympie Muster.

Favourite quote or advice?

Call me what you like, just don’t call me late for breakfast.

“My dad used to say this a lot” she explains.“It took me a while to understand it. Nowadays I really do like eating a good breakfast, and am working on the rest.”
